Memories of the Future
Memories of the Future: A collaboration between Akram Khan Company & Dance United Yorkshire
A Landmark Performance for Bradford 2025 performed at The Alhambra Theatre, Bradford on Saturday 5th July 2025.
Memories of the Future was an extraordinary collaboration between Akram Khan Company (AKC) and Dance United Yorkshire (DUY), created as part of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture. This one-of-a-kind performance brought together world-class artists and over 70 community performers, aged 8 to 79, from across Bradford.
Co-directed by Akram Khan and Helen Linsell, the piece was choreographed by emerging artists Elliott Augustine and Tallulah Shannon. With original music by Vincenzo Lamagna, stunning costumes by Ryan Dawson Laight, and evocative lighting by Zeynep Kepekli, this promised to be a powerful and visually striking production.
What was the story?
Inspired by Akram Khan Company’s Jungle Book reimagined, Memories of the Future explored the universal search for belonging. Through movement and storytelling, the piece reflected on how we navigate identity, connection, and change throughout our lives.
Rehearsed weekly by six community groups in Bradford, the production championed diverse voices and the transformative power of dance.
